Founded in 2022, we're on a mission to make zero-emission transportation at scale a reality.
Our story.
Voltera was founded in 2022 to take on the tough challenges of developing, owning, and operating EV charging infrastructure – to enable fleets to succeed at scale with zero-emission vehicles.
Initially a subsidiary of the global data center developer EdgeConneX, the idea that would become Voltera was conceived in 2018 on the realization that transport electrification at scale requires the same core competencies as data center development – namely, the ability to source land and power.
We signed our first customer contract in 2021. In 2022 we received a multibillion-dollar equity commitment from EQT, one of the largest and most active infrastructure investors globally, and Voltera was officially born.
Since then, we have scaled our own capacity, growing the team by double digits as we work to solve the tough challenges fleets are facing. In just 18 months we acquired, powered, designed, and developed the largest dedicated charging site for heavy-duty freight at the second-busiest port in North America.
We now have 21+ sites and 115+ megawatts of charging capacity currently in development, and we’ve invested $150 million+ into electrified sites.
We’re forging our carbon-free transportation future.
To forge our carbon-free transportation future, we develop, own, and operate the infrastructure that enables our customers to succeed at scale with zero-emission vehicles.
Our culture.
The Voltera team is built to solve tough challenges and enable our customers to succeed at scale with zero-emission vehicles. We are making carbon-free transportation a reality by thinking big, planning well, and delivering today. With diversity of thought, backgrounds, and experiences, we are united by shared values of embracing challenge, cultivating trust, and being authentic.
A note from our CEO.
“Today decarbonization is the single most important task for humanity to accomplish.
I believe we can, and I know it will be incredibly difficult. In transportation, fleets of all kinds are rapidly accelerating EV adoption, but they’re challenged to deploy the charging infrastructure to power those vehicles. With strong capital backing, deep experience across the EV ecosystem, and deployed capacity in 21+ markets, Voltera is uniquely positioned to help solve those challenges.”
