Urban Charging Made Easy for Light-Duty Fleets
Light-duty fleets are leading the charge in the race to decarbonize transportation, especially in big cities. Urban charging and the task of electrifying these environments brings real challenges: limited space, utility constraints, and rising demand from fleets operating on tight schedules.
Voltera is meeting that challenge. Our growing portfolio of charging facilities (now across California, Texas, Arizona, and Florida) is built specifically to meet the unique requirements of urban charging for light-duty passenger fleets. With over 294 charging stalls and 28 MW of capacity added in just this latest wave of development, Voltera is scaling electrification in the places where it’s needed most.
Scaling with Purpose: Meeting the Needs of Urban Light-Duty Fleets
Light-duty fleets operating in dense urban areas, from rideshare and last-mile delivery to autonomous vehicles and branded charging networks, require charging infrastructure that goes beyond availability. They need real uptime, optimized locations, and the ability to scale as demand grows.
Voltera’s approach starts with a clear understanding of how these fleets operate. We don’t just build sites; we develop purpose-built facilities designed to support high-utilization EVs in busy metro environments.
Key Design Priorities:
- High throughput: Fast charging for fleets with minimal downtime
- Strategic siting: Real estate close to fleet activity zones
- Operational resilience: Sites ready for round-the-clock use
- Integrated services: In some cases, fleet management space and maintenance on-site
With these principles, Voltera is building not just for today’s fleets, but for the future of fleet electrification itself.
A Growing Footprint in Key Urban Markets
Our latest facilities showcase the reach and flexibility of our model. While each site is tailored to local fleet needs, they all share a commitment to operational excellence and urban functionality.
California: Reimagining Existing Space
In San Francisco, Voltera transformed a three-story parking structure into a modern EV hub. Proving that existing facilities can be reimagined to meet today’s charging needs. In Santa Monica, two new sites are supporting high-volume light-duty fleets in one of the nation’s most traffic-dense metro areas.
Texas: Fleet Hubs with End-to-End Support
In Dallas, Austin, and Houston, Voltera sites offer more than charging. Our Austin location includes on-site vehicle maintenance bays, fleet offices, and employee amenities, providing centralized support for daily operations. These facilities are designed with scale and flexibility in mind, essential for the diverse urban fleet landscape in Texas.
Arizona & Florida: New Market Expansion
In Phoenix and Miami, Voltera is bringing large-scale EV infrastructure to high-growth regions. The upcoming Miami site, with 79 DC fast charging stalls, will be one of our largest light-duty depots, built to serve a market where urban charging is needed due to electrification expanding rapidly and fleet operators seeking dependable access.
Urban Charging Without the Infrastructure Burden
One of the biggest barriers to electrification goes beyond just real estate, is all about complexity. From utility coordination to permitting, construction, and ongoing operations, building reliable urban charging infrastructure is a heavy lift.
Voltera removes that burden from customers.
Our turnkey solution includes:
- Full lifecycle delivery: We manage everything from site acquisition to long-term operations.
- No upfront CapEx: Our customers pay via monthly operating expenses, no need to invest in infrastructure themselves.
- Operational transparency: Our software platform gives fleets visibility into charger performance, energy use, and site activity in real time.
This end-to-end model is especially valuable in urban markets, where permitting, power availability, and space constraints can otherwise derail electrification plans.
Investing at Scale to Enable Fleet Growth
Voltera’s commitment to urban charging is backed by significant capital and experience. With more than $150 million invested to date and a strong capital backing from EQT, we’re able to act quickly in high-demand markets, ensuring that the infrastructure needed to power the EV transition is available when and where it’s needed.
Our light-duty portfolio is part of a larger national network, which includes 20 properties and more than 115 MW of total power capacity. From our flagship heavy-duty truck site in Lynwood, CA, to fast-paced urban hubs in Miami and San Francisco, we’re proving that charging at scale doesn’t have to be complicated.
