Job description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Electrical Engineer experienced in the design and specification of power systems as well as charging-site support systems like network communications, video surveillance, access control, and lighting. This engineer will support the implementation of safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric vehicle (EV) charging sites through a combination of standards development and site-specific design. In addition to the distribution of power at multi-megawatt scale charging sites, the ideal candidate will contribute to the application of on-site renewable and non-traditional power generation technologies.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Review customer’s performance requirements and translate to high level designs that may include single line diagrams, device layouts, metering & controls diagrams, and basis of design documentation.
  • Lead design and overall solution development with the support of partners to ensure design requirements have been properly incorporated into deliverables.
  • Provide options and recommendations for various solutions to project stakeholders.
  • Review approval drawings of components critical to safe and reliable site operations.
  • Support selection of electrical equipment at each site.
  • Responsible for incorporation and adherence to customer contract design scope.
  • Responsible for ensuring designs incorporate and adhere to local AHJ and utility requirements.
  • Provide input on design impacts to project budget and schedule.
  • Be available to quickly support tasks such as producing photometric calculations or re-formatting AutoCAD files in format acceptable to stakeholders such as utilities.
  • Perform load profile and usage estimates used to inform minimum power requirements that meet customer needs.
  • Develop layouts and perform power and energy calculations, and usage estimates, related to solar-PV, battery energy storage systems, electric vehicle batteries, and other power technologies.
  • Work to develop design guides, standard details, and book specifications.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

MUST-HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant technical experience, including decision-making roles relative to product specification and electrical design.
  • Significant experience applying the requirements of the National Electric Code.
  • Familiarity with power distribution equipment such as switchgear, overcurrent devices, transformers, and power metering. Familiarity with medium voltage systems including application of relays preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.

NICE-TO-HAVE:

  • Proficient in Revit.
  • Ability to perform power studies (arc-flash hazard potential, breaker coordination, and short circuit potential) with software tools such as ETAP.
  • Experience using HelioScope or equivalent software for solar layout and production estimates.
  • Experience with electric vehicles and the use/maintenance of DC equipment.
