Job description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Electrical Engineer experienced in the design and specification of power systems as well as charging-site support systems like network communications, video surveillance, access control, and lighting. This engineer will support the implementation of safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric vehicle (EV) charging sites through a combination of standards development and site-specific design. In addition to the distribution of power at multi-megawatt scale charging sites, the ideal candidate will contribute to the application of on-site renewable and non-traditional power generation technologies.  WHAT YOU’LL DO:  Review customer’s performance requirements and translate to high level designs that may include single line diagrams, device layouts, metering & controls diagrams, and basis of design documentation.  Lead design and overall solution development with the support of partners to ensure design requirements have been properly incorporated into deliverables.  Provide options and recommendations for various solutions to project stakeholders.   Review approval drawings of components critical to safe and reliable site operations.  Support selection of electrical equipment at each site.   Responsible for incorporation and adherence to customer contract design scope.  Responsible for ensuring designs incorporate and adhere to local AHJ and utility requirements.   Provide input on design impacts to project budget and schedule.  Be available to quickly support tasks such as producing photometric calculations or re-formatting AutoCAD files in format acceptable to stakeholders such as utilities.  Perform load profile and usage estimates used to inform minimum power requirements that meet customer needs.   Develop layouts and perform power and energy calculations, and usage estimates, related to solar-PV, battery energy storage systems, electric vehicle batteries, and other power technologies.  Work to develop design guides, standard details, and book specifications.  Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.  MUST-HAVE:  Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.  5+ years of relevant technical experience, including decision-making roles relative to product specification and electrical design.  Significant experience applying the requirements of the National Electric Code.  Familiarity with power distribution equipment such as switchgear, overcurrent devices, transformers, and power metering. Familiarity with medium voltage systems including application of relays preferred.  Proficient in AutoCAD.  NICE-TO-HAVE:  Proficient in Revit. Ability to perform power studies (arc-flash hazard potential, breaker coordination, and short circuit potential) with software tools such as ETAP.  Experience using HelioScope or equivalent software for solar layout and production estimates.  Experience with electric vehicles and the use/maintenance of DC equipment.  LOCATION:  USA, Remote  Compensation ($100,000 to $150,000): Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
